Make Your Workout A Habit

Many people struggle to workout regularly. There’s a huge influx of people at the gym shortly after New Year working on their New Year’s resolution, but it usually doesn’t last very long. People fail to handle their schedule correctly. They end up giving up on working out to fulfill other responsibilities. The problem is that we’re not going to be young forever and we need to take care of our health. I interviewed Katie Jiang, fitness guru to help those who can’t seem to workout regularly.

Set Up a Goal

Many people tell themselves that they’re going to work out, but they don’t make specific plans for it. It’s easier to keep up with it when you have a plan. Jiang added that if you want to look a certain way, trainers tell you to set a specific goal such as how much weight you want to lose or how much weight you want to lift.

Want it for Yourself

When people have motivation to do something they get it done. If they don’t want to workout, but they forced by others or doing it for some other reasons, they’re more likely to give up sooner or later. One prime example is New Year’s resolution. “Usually first 2 months of New Year is very crowded at the gym,” Jiang said. The problem is that they all give up after those 2 months. If you don’t truly want it, you’ll eventually give up because it’s not your priority.

Don’t Shy Away

It’s intimidating to go to the gym at first. You don’t know anything about the equipment and you don’t want to embarrass yourself in front of all those bulky and muscular people. “I feel like a lot of people specifically girls, they stop working out because they’re intimidated by bigger guys and people who look like they know what they’re doing,” said Jiang. She advised people to find a workout buddy if they’re intimidated to go to the gym alone.

Get a Trainer

Some people don’t like having a trainer because it costs money and they feel obliged to go, but that’s the point. They push you to be there even on your bad days. Jiang added that people go much more often and regularly when you pay for it. When you pay for it, you’re not only investing time, you’re investing money as well. That motivates you to go.

Don’t Rely on Home Workouts

People with very busy schedule prefer home workouts because they don’t have to invest time to go to the gym. The problem is that home workouts are very limited. There’re many workouts that you can only do at the gym unless you invest time and money to turn your house into a mini gym. Jiang advised people that it’s okay to do home workouts, but that shouldn’t be your primary and only workout plan.

Working out can be a chore and it’s not a fun activity to many people, but you can turn it around. If you find a right workout plan that works for you, you can have fun while you see positive changes. Also never forget, continuity is everything.
